Spirit Airlines is joining Frontier in eliminating change and cancellation fees, following a strategy shift for budget airlines. The move comes as the Biden administration cracks down on what it deems “junk fees.” Spirit previously charged $69 to $119 for ticket changes and cancellations. The change is part of an overhaul of pricing approaches for discount carriers, which traditionally relied on low base fares and added fees for ancillary items. Spirit’s chief commercial officer stated that the airline would continue testing new merchandising strategies to generate revenue.
