The Funded: PG&E co-sponsors $11M XPrize seeking new ways to detect and put out wildfires
The contest is for a design for a new fire-resistant power pole.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. hopes to encourage the development of technologies that can accurately detect the fires and suppress them autonomously.
As announced on Friday, the utility giant will team up with the charity foundation of the late Intel Corp. founder Gordon Moore to be the main sponsors of the $11 million XPrize contest. The competition is designed to help find new methods of fighting wildfires as they become more frequent and destructive.
