The Boss Wants to Make You More Efficient
Many companies waste time and money on pointless tasks that could be eliminated to boost productivity and save money.

Years ago, AT&T Inc. employees were required to report the names of guests at a retirement celebration in the company's expense reporting system. This was a small inconvenience that millions of white collar workers accept as part of their daily office routine.
A team of AT&T's technology experts calculated that the requirement and a similar one for parties celebrating service anniversaries cost their workers 28,500 additional hours per year, which they could have spent on other, more important tasks. The company then scrapped the requirement and has since made 160 other similar changes that it estimates save employees 3 million hours per year.
