Why Delta is still canceling flights as other airlines return to normal
Three days after a computer update problem caused flight cancellations worldwide, Delta Air Lines continues to face disruptions. Delta canceled 1,500 flights on Friday, more than any other airline, and subsequently grounded thousands more. The airline attributed the problem to a computer program affecting its crew scheduling software. The flight groundings and delays disrupted travel plans and were part of a larger IT outage caused by a software issue affecting millions of computers globally. Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized for the disruptions and mentioned the challenges of reaccommodating passengers during the busy summer season. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke with Bastian about compensation for affected passengers.
