Elon Musk beats $500 million severance lawsuit by fired Twitter workers

Elon Musk successfully had a lawsuit dismissed accusing him of refusing to pay severance to thousands of Twitter employees after acquiring the company. A U.S. District Judge ruled that the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act did not cover the former employees’ claims. The case is part of a series of lawsuits alleging Musk failed to fulfill promises to former Twitter employees and vendors after the acquisition. The plaintiffs claimed that instead of the agreed-upon severance package, fired employees were only offered one month’s pay with no benefits. The judge suggested the plaintiffs could amend their complaint for claims not governed by the Act.
