A new hangar may soon be available at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Birmingham Airport Authority Board has approved a five-year lease for Hangar 28. The lease is effective on May 1. BAA states that Hangar 28 measures 14,561 square foot with 96,292 sq. ft. of land. H 28 plans to lease the hangar at $8 per square feet and the land surrounding it for 60 cents each square foot. The total rent for the first year will be $174.263.20. This is 18% more than before. Rents for H 28 LLC are set to increase in accordance with the CPI or by 2% per year, whichever is greater. H 28 will also invest $250,000 in the improvement of its hangars as required.

H 28 LLC, a privately managed hangar, is professionally managed.

Air Methods has also asked to end its lease early at hangar 7. The lease is currently valid until January 2025. BAA has approved the early termination of the contract, if it can find an acceptable replacement tenant. BAA believes it can find a tenant who will pay over 40% more than Air Methods pays now. Air Methods currently only leases a portion of the ramp.

Air Methods, an air medical transport service based in Greenwood Village (Colorado), is a company that provides air ambulance services. The company intends to terminate the lease early, because it does not use its hangar at BHM as intended for helicopters.

BHM is also getting a new FBO.
