2023 40 Under 40: Chris Brown of Orlando Repertory Theatre

After the Covid-19 Pandemic and two Hurricanes last year, he faced a variety of challenges in moving his organization forward.
The executive director of Orlando Repertory Theatre stated that his greatest accomplishment was to keep his organization growing. "We have faced many challenges, including two hurricanes in the fall. But we persevered."
Brown also spearheaded new priorities in terms of strategy, such as a partnership with TheatreworksUSA, based in New York City, that will set the stage for a national tour starting at Orlando REP.

What is your biggest business challenge for this year?
Soon we will launch a huge exciting campaign in order to reintroduce our organization to the local community. The name will be changed, the branding will evolve and there will be a major capital campaign to upgrade the aging building.

Your ultimate career goals:
I am a servant-leader and strive to change the status quo. "We've done it this way" is what keeps me going. This is what I do as my primary occupation: teach young people compassion, empathy and confidence.
How can you overcome feelings of doubt?
Every day I doubt myself. I just try to breathe, do my best and take each day as it comes. I also have a wonderful spouse. She is a great help.
Are you a traditionalist, a disruptor, or both?
I love tradition, but I also know that disruption is necessary for growth. I am a bit of both.
