Local officials reported that at least 16 people were hurt when an Amtrak collided with the truck that was blocking the tracks in Southern California and partially derailed.

Ventura County Fire Department reports that the driver of the truck has been transported to a trauma centre and another person with a "minor medical issue" was taken to an emergency room. In a tweet, the Ventura County Fire Department said that 14 others were taken from the scene after suffering minor injuries.

The department stated that the other passengers on the Coast Starlight train seemed to be uninjured.

The train was derailed by the impact, but it remained upright. Amtrak will work with customers to arrange alternate travel, according to Amtrak's announcement.

Amtrak reported that there were 198 passengers on the train and 13 crewmembers.

The fire department reported that the scene had been cleared by emergency medical and fire crews. The passengers were transported to a reunion center, where they could call their family.

Amtrak has announced that it will investigate this incident in conjunction with local authorities.
